You will have to answer 50 multiple choice theory test questions. Your responses are made by touching the screen or using the mouse on the computer at the test centre. You must achieve 43 correct answers (85%) to pass this part of the test.
Having submitted the answers to the above questions you will have 3 minutes before the HPT starts.
You will be shown 14 video clips of 1 minute each. The videos show everyday driving. Candidates can score up to 5 marks for the 15 scoreable hazards. (One clip has two hazards). The pass mark for this part of the test is 44 out of a possible score of 75.
The Theory test certificate is valid for 2 years in which time you must pass the practical test. Otherwise another Theory test must be taken.
DSA fee £30.00 (book online by choosing the links button on the Home page and clicking on the driving test centre link).
Practical Driving Test
At the beginning of the test you will be required to read a number plate at a distance of 20.5 - 21metres (depending on plate type, since 2001).Before moving off on the test you will be asked two ‘show me/tell me’ questions. The test will last approximately 40 minutes, consist of driving on a variety of roads including dual carriageways, over a course of about 6.5 miles. During the test candidates will be expected to carry out two set exercises including reversing and possibly an emergency (controlled stop). Candidates should also expect to be asked to stop at the side of the road and move off again several times during the test.
Driving test candidates should aim to make as few driving faults as possible. A high standard of driving is expected and is needed to pass the practical test.
Mock Tests
FJ’s Driving Tuition carry out periodic mock tests to ensure candidates are ready to take the practical test. Candidates should have a realistic chance of passing before booking a test.
